What does it cost to set up a house?

Have you got furniture for your new place?

For a room in an existing household, you'll only need things for your own room - a bed, a wardrobe, maybe a desk, sheets and towels.

For a new place, you'll need lots more. You'll need furniture to sit on and eat at (chairs, tables), kitchen items (fridge, utensils, cutlery, plates) and cleaning items (washing machine, broom, vacuum cleaner, iron and ironing board).

And what about a microwave oven, a TV, a DVD, a stereo? And heating?

It's a good idea to buy contents insurance too, to protect you from the cost of replacing your things if your home is robbed or damaged. If you buy $40,000 worth of cover, the insurance company will provide you with up to $40,000 to replace the things in your home (including your clothes) if they were taken or destroyed.
